There is no fear in love. But perfect love
casts out fear… --1
God’s plan for marriage is
according to
Titus 1:6 - one spouse!
God’s forgiveness doesn’t lower the standard.
1. Physical
Intimacy -
Let him kiss me with the
kisses of his mouth—for your love is more delightful than wine.
--Song of Solomon 1:2,
§
Must be accompanied by strong
physical restraint. --Song of Solomon 4:12; also
2. A Purified
Character -
Your name is like purified oil.
--verse 3,
What’s in a name? Just the mention of their name reminds us of their character.
3. The Respect
of Others - No wonder the
maidens love you. --verse 3,
4. Biblical
Balance in Our Roles - Draw
me after you and let us run together. --verse 4,
Solomon’s fiancée is asking him to take the lead!
Leadership is not lordship. Leadership which respects a spouse’s feelings, desires, opinions and convictions causes a wife to say like Solomon’s fiancée – Draw me after you!
Paul says to become a leader you must become a servant!
5.
An Increasing Sense of
Security - Do not stare at me… --verses
Song of Solomon 2:1 - Her confidence is building; she is feeling safe!
Song of Solomon 2:16, 6:3, 7:10
6. Giving Genuine Praise Builds Intimacy - Song of Solomon 4:1-7, 5:10-16, 6:4-9, 7:1-9
Over forty times in these eight chapters Solomon tells his fiancée/wife how beautiful she is to him and she reciprocates.
Genuine praise reveals knowledge which can only come through closeness.
7. Acknowledges
Your Spouse Always - Song of
Solomon 1:13-14 - a sachet of myrrh hanging around my neck, a bouquet of
flowers;
8. Spiritual
Oneness - The
beams of our house are cedars; our rafters are firs.
--verse 17,
You cannot leave out the spiritual element of intimacy and experience all that God intended for your marriage.
