"Here, you take the remote."  A True TVLAND Dad

Being a dad is a difficult and costly adventure with great implications

Exodus 20:5-6  I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

When we come up short – there are consequences that affect those who follow behind us.

When we do it right there are ResultsBlessings

Colossians 3

1.  The Commands vss. 17, 19, 21

          A.  Whatever you do- represent the character of The Lord Jesus

Before you give up and say my character doesn’t match Jesus…

          Remember two things.

Our character is what we are normally characterized by.

Our character is based on Jesus’ character  Vs 3

B.  Love your wives

          C.  Do not exasperate, provoke, antagonize, frustrate, wind up, drive mad, bug, … or they lose heart.

What dad hasn’t done this?  Pushing too hard, razzing, playing power games…

2.  The Goal – The peace of God ruling in our homes by ruling in our hearts Vs 15.

You’re not going to parent perfectly but peace invites us to be one – restoration

3.  The How – Let the Word dwell in you …   Vs 16-17

          Be in the word then…

                   Teach it

                   Celebrate it

                   ALL you do Deut 6:6-9

4.  This is a matter of the heart.  Vs 23 Whatever you do … all your heart as for the Lord

Parenting is for the Lord – we are his representatives.

Luke 11:11-12  When people are hurt by their earthly fathers they often have a hard time relating to the Heavenly Father.

How?  vs. 1 ~ Set, AIM, SEEK  Matt 6:33 Seek first…Jesus

Vss 1&2 Set, your hearts, set your minds… Surrender

Luke 12:31 31Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.

Being a Dad requires Gods resources not your own.
