Principle of the Treasure - Part 2
Lessons in Ownership
2/26/2006 AM ~ Pastor Brad Dyrness

Have you ever loaned something to someone and had it returned scratched or broken?

1.     God owns everything.

Job 41:11, Psalm 24:1, Haggai 2:8, Deuteronomy 8:18,                      1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Clearly the Lord claims ownership of everything.

Our assignment is to be the managers                                                                of what God has given us!

It’s not your money!

A steward manages assets for the owner’s benefits.

2 Corinthians 8:1-4

Listen to those words:

          most severe trial, overflowing joy

          extreme poverty, rich generosity

Exodus 36:7

Eric Liddell said, I believe God made me for a purpose… When I run, I feel His pleasure.

He rewards those who are good stewards.

Luke 16:11-12, Philippians 4:17

2.     My heart always goes where I put God’s money.

Matthew 6:21 - The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.  --The Message

What keeps us from giving?

3.     Heaven, not earth, is my home.

Hebrews 11:13, 2 Corinthians 5:20, Philippians 3:20

He who dies with the most toys … still dies.

The shortsighted person lives for the dot.  The person with perspective lives for the line.

4.      I should not live for the dot, but for the line.

Giving is living for the line!

Jim Elliot said, He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.

Possessions don’t bring joy; perspective does.
